SAMPLE TEXT:

Lights rise on an empty stage.  Tom runs through the space throwing on a robe or putting on his pants.  He exits. Sounds of him urinating offstage. First lines of dialogue are from off stage.

                                                            TOM

Was that a mistake?

                                                            ANN

I don’t think so.

                                                            TOM

I forgot how intense you are.

Ann enters buttoning up her shirt or fixing her clothes

                                                            ANN

I feel like I should apologize for that.  Tom enters

                                                            TOM

Don’t be silly

                                                             ANN

We still have our shoes on.

                                                            TOM

Pretty funny.

                                                             ANN

I think it’s sad.  They embrace

                                                            TOM

This is familiar.

                                                            ANN

And different.  Tom exits to get a piece of clothing or cigarette

                                                            TOM

Offstage. How long has it been?

                                                            ANN

You don’t remember?

                                                            TOM
Seems like yesterday.

ANN

Or a lifetime ago.  He re-enters.

                                                            TOM

Nothing has really changed.

                                                            ANN

Everything has.

                                                            TOM

Your hair looks great like that.

                                                            ANN

Thanks.

                                                            TOM

It brings out your eyes.

                                                            ANN

Thanks.

                                                            TOM

You look great.

                                                            ANN

Thanks.

Blackout.  Spotlight up on the two of them engaged in some erotic act.  Blackout.  Lights up with the actors in the same position they were in before the first blackout as the “realistic” scene continues.

                                                            ANN

Were you able to just shut me out when you left?

                                                            TOM

Yeah.

                                                            ANN

Hm.

                                                            TOM

Survival.

                                                            ANN

Whatever.

                                                            TOM

You didn’t do anything wrong.

                                                            ANN

Oh, really?

                                                            TOM

It just wasn’t the right time.  He exits again to do something.

                                                            ANN

It wasn’t okay.  The way you left me.

                                                            TOM

It was all I knew how to do.

                                                            ANN

It still wasn’t okay.  He re-enters.

                                                            TOM

If we had been face to face, it would have turned into a blame session.

                                                            ANN

You should have let us have it.

                                                            TOM

Why?  Exasperated, she exits to get clothing.

                                                            ANN

It took me a year to get over you.

                                                            TOM

Wow!

Blackout.  Spotlight up on the two of them in some erotic act.  Blackout.  Ann re-enters, standing by the door.
